COOKING TO TEACHING: NANAY JUDITH'S GOFEED JOURNEY
SEPTEMBER 2024
Nanay Judith Pornobe, a 50-year-old resident of Brgy. Mabacan, Calauan, Laguna, is a dedicated mother of five who works alongside her husband as a farmer. Each morning, they trek to tend to their crops, including bananas and pineapples, while also running a small sari-sari store and taking on property maintenance work. Despite having only completed the second year of high school, she once believed her life would be limited to household chores and farming. This perspective changed dramatically when GoFeed, a program providing nutritious meals to needy children, entered her life. With one of her grandchildren benefiting from the program, she began volunteering to cook meals, finding joy in contributing to the children’s well-being.
Encouraged by GoFeed coordinators, Nanay Judith gradually became more involved, transitioning from cooking to teaching. Overcoming her initial fears and shyness, she embraced the challenge and started teaching the children on October 7, 2023. This marked a significant turning point in her life, allowing her to pursue her dream of becoming a teacher while supporting her community. Through her journey with GoFeed, she has discovered a renewed sense of purpose, illustrating the powerful impact of community support in helping individuals realize their ultimate aspirations. Nanay Judith is immensely thankful for this opportunity, as it has enabled her to nurture the minds of the children while fulfilling her own dreams.
